Objective:

By the end of this session, learners should understand the basics of Scrum, focusing on the 3-5-3-5 structure (3 roles, 5 events, 3 artifacts, 5 values). They should be able to apply this understanding to effectively participate in a Scrum team and facilitate Agile practices in their organization.

Problem Scenario:

You’re a new member of a software development team at a company that follows Scrum. Your team consists of individuals who are new to Scrum, and you’ve been asked to help them understand the fundamental elements of Scrum as described in the 3-5-3-5 structure.

How can you help your team understand and apply the roles, events, artifacts, and values of Scrum?

Tasks:

  1. Understand Scrum Fundamentals: Familiarize yourself with the 3-5-3-5 structure of Scrum, which includes 3 roles (Product Owner, Scrum Master, Development Team), 5 events (Sprint, Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, Sprint Retrospective), 3 artifacts (Product Backlog, Sprint Backlog, Increment), and 5 values (Courage, Focus, Commitment, Respect, Openness).
  2. Identify Applications of Scrum Fundamentals: Based on your understanding, identify how each role, event, artifact, and value applies to your team’s context. This includes discussing with the team how they can embody the Scrum roles and values, and how to effectively participate in Scrum events and manage Scrum artifacts.

Reflective Questions:

  1. How did your understanding of the Scrum fundamentals influence your approach to guiding your team in Scrum practices?
  2. Which aspects of the Scrum fundamentals did you find most relevant to your team’s situation and why?
  3. What challenges do you anticipate in implementing Scrum fundamentals, and how do you plan to overcome them?
